Cobb EMC President and CEO resigns

Peter Heintzelman, Cobb EMC President and CEO, has tendered his resignation to Cobb EMC and plans to leave the company to pursue other opportunities. Kevan Espy, Senior Vice President of Electric Operations, will assume the role of interim CEO.

“Cobb EMC is a great asset to the community because of a team of employees who go to work every day to serve the community. It’s been a privilege to work beside all of them,” said Heintzelman.

Tripper Sharp, Chairman of the Cobb EMC Board of Directors said, “Peter’s leadership enabled the cooperative to move forward in several areas, including renewable energy, reliability, and member satisfaction. On behalf of the entire Board, we thank Peter for his hard work and service to our members.”

Regarding Espy's appointment as interim CEO, Mr. Sharp stated, “Kevan has the confidence and respect of the Board, senior leadership, and all employees. He has a deep understanding of our system, a strong commitment to our members, and concern for our employees. I look forward to working with Kevan through this leadership transition.”

Espy, a 29-year veteran at Cobb EMC, was appointed Senior Vice President Electric Operations in January of 2019 and has served in various leadership roles of increasing responsibility.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Appalachian State and recently earned his MBA at Emory. Kevan, his wife Jessica, and their daughter reside in Acworth, GA.

The Board is expected to conduct a formal evaluation of both internal and external candidates early next year.
