Community Foundation gives a million dollars to communities

The Cobb EMC Community Foundation recently reached a milestone of giving back one million dollars to local communities since its inception in 2013. These donations have helped to support over a hundred local charitable organizations and education projects thanks to its Operation Round-Up program.

With the help of members rounding up their electric bill to the nearest dollar each month through the program, the Cobb EMC Community Foundation administers the funds collected and reallocates it directly back into local communities every month.

“Thanks to the generous support of Cobb EMC members, we’ve been able to make a tremendous impact by helping those in need,” said Chuck Bressoud, Chairman of the Cobb EMC Community Foundation. “This small change has added up to make a real difference in our communities, neighborhoods and families.”

A sample of organizations that have benefited from these donations include Must Ministries, Devereux Foundation, Calvary Children’s Home, Ser Familia, Center for Family Resources, Chattahoochee Tech Foundation, Safe Path, YWCA, Nobis Works, Good Samaritan Health Center, Sweetwater Mission and Family Promise of Cobb County.

“Thank you Cobb EMC members for helping us bring shelter, meals, and support services to families without homes in our community”, said Camilla Worrell, Executive Director at Family Promise of Cobb County. “Your support is touching lives.”

A portion of the donations are also allocated to the newly established Cobb EMC Community Foundation Scholarship. Fourteen scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each were awarded to eligible high school seniors this year. The award can be applied to any accredited two or four-year university, college or vocational-technical school.
