Cobb EMC Celebrates Lineman Appreciation Day

Cobb EMC, along with other Georgia electric membership corporations, is celebrating Lineman Appreciation Day on April 13. On this day, we pay tribute to all the hard-working linemen across the state.

“Mother Nature does not care about holidays, vacations or birthdays and our linemen set aside their personal priorities to restore service if the need arises,” said Peter Heintzelman, President and CEO of Cobb EMC. “With the damaging storms that passed through our area last night, it is comforting to know that we have the best linemen in the business standing ready to assist our members.”

The work of linemen is important 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and recent storms in the southeast have provided these heroes the opportunity to shine. Hurricane Michael arrived in 2018 as a Category 3 hurricane and caused catastrophic damage in EMC service territories, with some distribution systems needing a complete rebuild. Approximately 210,000 EMC members across the state experienced outages that were estimated to take up to five weeks to be complete, but the collective power of linemen completed restoration in a little over two weeks.

On April 13, Cobb EMC is calling upon members and the community to express thanks and appreciation by sending a message to line workers using the hashtag #ThankALineman.

Support linemen by getting a "Thank a Lineman" license plate

Proceeds from the sale of “Thank a Lineman” license plates benefit the Burn Foundation of America, which provides assistance to burn patients and their families at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Georgians can purchase a license plate when renewing their annual motor vehicle registration on the Department of Driver Services' website.
